Feta and Moonglow. Feta is great in a salad with tomatoes and basil or on a pizza or made into a dip. Yum! Moonglow is an alpine style cheese. I like to use it for a quick dinner accompaniment we call “cheesy face” where we shred the cheese and put it on some bread and broil it. Throw a tomato slice on there for extra yums.
Recipes.
A few savory cantaloupe suggestions:
Cantaloupe Caprese Salad Arrange sliced cantaloupe and tomatoes on a platter. Top with fresh slices of fresh mozzerella or crumbled feta. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped basil or mint, salt, and pepper.
Crackers with Cantaloupe, Ricotta, and Ham Top rye crackers with ricotta, sliced cantaloupe, sliced ham, salt, and pepper.
Cucumber and Cantaloupe Salad with Sesame Seeds Toss cut-up cantaloupe, sliced cucumbers, and sliced red onion with canola oil, rice vinegar, toasted sesame seeds, salt, and red pepper flakes.
On the Farm.
Looking for something to do on Saturday August 28th? We very highly recommend that you come out to our neighborhood to hear some music from our dear friend (and CSA member!) David Huckfelt. He’s playing at the Hungry Turtle Barn, part of the Farm Table Foundation. Get your tickets here! We will see you there!
From the Farm Table Foundation: “A concert in the barn at Hungry Turtle Farm always promises to be a magical evening. And David Huckfelt (of The Pines) is sure to entertain, delight, and inspire. Huckfelt has shared the stage with musical luminaries including Mavis Staples, Emmylou Harris & Greg Brown, Bon Iver, and Arcade Fire.
Join us at 7 PM as Farm Table's local foods restaurant will be serving delicious fare: brats, local beers, wines, tasty sides, and sweets. Plus, take a self-guided educational farm tour and learn about seeds and seed saving from Hungry Turtle Farm’s manager.”
