What’s in the box?

fullsizeoutput_ca9.jpeg

Curly lettuce
Romaine lettuce
Arugula
Salad mix
Spinach
Napa cabbage
green onions
Salad Turnips or Radishes
Herb basket

Notes on the box.

Another very green week (early season in full effect!) All greens will keep best in a plastic bag in the fridge. Remove the tops from turnips/ radishes for longer storage.

Arugula is great in salads or you can also make a nice pesto out of it.
Salad Turnips are so good right now! Crisp, sweet, and refreshing. We slice or cube them and eat them as snacks (sometimes the kids don’t bother with any of that and they just eat them as they are).
Napa Cabbage is great in stir-fry, fried rice, or try it as a slaw with a peanut sauce.
The baby kale is good fresh or cooked. I like it in a fritatta.

Circle of the Sun aged over a year and Green Garlic Quark. Circle of the Sun is one of my favorite cheeses to make and it’s an original recipe to our farm. This particular batch was made in early Spring of last year and the cows were still eating mostly hay before the pasture really started growing, so it’s not as grassy as most that I make, but it still has a nice brightness. It’s a good snacking cheese, or it’s nice to cube up and add to salad or shred on top of eggs or tacos. The quark is one of my most popular at market. It is great spread on crackers, or on bread with some thinly sliced radish or salad turnips. It will keep for two weeks in the fridge.

Head’s up! The 4th of July is on a Thursday this year! We will be making that weeks delivery on Wednesday July 3. You will have the option of doubling a delivery for another week or adding a delivery to the end of the season. When you email with your vacation date, let us know how you would like to handle the schedule. If you have additional weeks that you won’t be able to pick-up, you can arrange to have a someone else pickup your share (please give them detailed pick-up directions) or you can let us know and we can donate your share. Let us know if you have any questions.

Our compliments to our members! This year was a WONDERFUL first week with very little confusion or mix-ups and everyone doing a great job of finding their boxes! THANK YOU!

It’s busy busy time on the farm! Still seeding and planting and prepping beds while also weeding and harvesting and packing boxes and going to market! The cows are enjoying lots of great pasture and the pigs are enjoying lots of golden whey! And really, no complaints about the weather lately. :)
