This week we have Garlic Dill Quark which is super nice on bread with sliced radishes or cucumbers. Or on a veggie sandwich. Or crackers. It’s really good with just about anything!
We also have Antares which is our cows milk manchego. This one is nice grated on some pasta or as a snack paired with jam or honey or olives. It’s also really yummy grated as a topping for taco salad!

Recipes.

Fresh Corn Salsa

Radish Greens Salsa

Pico de Gallo

Don’t forget! This Sunday August 27 from 1-4 is another Sunday Sundae Ice Cream Social! We will have our friends from Fiddlehead Kitchen doing a little pop-up offering savory snacks for sale. And they will be making apple pie that you can have a la mode! Or you can choose a brownie for a sundae! It’s gonna be tasty! Our farm store will be open with veggies, cheese, and meat for sale. You might want to bring lawn chairs to sit on. If you type Turnip Rock Farm into google maps, it will lead you here. Let us know if you are planning on coming. Hope to see you out at the farm!

notes on the box.

Melons can be put in the fridge if you like them cold when you eat them. If you won’t be eating the melon for some time, you should put it in the fridge. After they are cut, they should go in the fridge if you don’t eat it all right away.

This might be the last week of cukes and zucchini!

This week we have Circle of the Sun which is a farm original. It’s a favorite of mine. This batch is nice for snacking on with some apricot jam or honey. Or you can use it for a cheese sandwich with tomatoes and veggies which is our number one meal at this time of year. Serve with corn on the cob, of course!

Also sending along some cheese curds! Great for snacking on.

It’s the heavy time of year! Heavy heavy veggies! We love them! We got some rain at the end of ripining, so the watermelons aren’t quite as sweet as they could be, but hopefully still yummy enough!

August 27 is Sunday Sundaes From 1-4. We will have special guests Fiddlehead Kitchen here who will be selling some snacks as well as coming up with the Sundae of the month! Sure to be a real treat! Mark your calendars and we hope to see you then!

This week is Ben’s last week on the farm. He’s off to school again and we will miss him a lot! Ben is a super hard worker and is so kind and so good at making us laugh. He’s an excellent cook and we all look forward to his lunch days. He’s also a fantastic dancer and can sing the songs of Harry Nillson. Just a 100% amazing person that we are so grateful to have had working on the farm! Thank you, Ben!

Feta and Cygnus, our aged Swiss style. Our swiss doesn’t have the holes that you find in a lot of swiss cheese because we don’t have the aging spaces with different temperature that are required to make the holes happen. It’s still got a lovely swiss flavor and we’ve had several people say “I dont usually like swiss!” that have enjoyed Cygnus (including myself!) It’s excellent on a mushroom swiss burger or with roasted cauliflower.
The feta is wonderful for salads or on pizza. I’m thinking it’s time for roasted beet salad with feta with these beautiful beets that are in the box!

Recipes.

Green Bean Salad with Toasted Almonds and Feta

Baked Cheesy Zucchini Bites

Beet and Onion Salad

Quick Summer Veggie Pasta Dinner
While water is boiling for pasta (any type is fine), Sautee a diced a red bell pepper, onion, garlic clove minced, sweet corn cut off of 2 ears of corn, and a diced zucchini in oil (or bacon grease or butter) until veggies are tender and starting to carmelize a little. Shred a good amount of flavorful cheese (such as Cosmic Wheel Creamery Cygnus!). Save a cup or so of pasta water before draining pasta. Toss veggies, cheese, and pasta together, add some pasta water if needed to make more saucy. Serve with red pepper flakes. Enjoy!

On the FArm.

Cukes and Zukes are winding down. The backs of our farm crew are feeling a great deal of relief about this news! Cukes and zukes are some of the first fruits of the season (first veggies that aren’t leafy or roots). They are welcomed with so much excitement and we eat so many as they come in, but after a few weeks of picking these heavy veggies that grow so low to the ground and need to be picked multiple times per week, there’s a bit of “peace out, zukes and cukes!” energy happening. We still have some picking left to do, but we are excited to welcome more tomatoes, sweet corn, peppers, and soon melons!
